What is the best time to consume mushrooms?

We recommend sticking with Chaga in the morning to start the day off right, Cordyceps before being active (or for an energy boost without the caffeine!), Lion's Mane when you need some help concentrating during work, and Reishi in the evening as the best kind of night cap.

All of the mushrooms can also be consumed throughout the day, whenever they are needed most!

What is the difference between Mushroom Coffee with Lion’s Mane and Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps?

Our Mushroom Coffee with Lion’s mane contains combined 500 mg of lion’s mane and chaga mushroom dual-extracts along with wild rhodiola root. Lion's Mane is an all-natural cognitive enhancer, and has been shown to support memory and concentration.Coffee can be an outstanding productivity booster, but even more so when enhanced with a good lion’s mane extract! These two ingredients work hand-in-hand to create the perfect state of mind.

Our Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps contains combined 500mg of cordyceps and chaga mushroom dual-extracts. Coffee is so energizing because it stimulates the central nervous system and adrenal glands. Combining this with Cordyceps helps you to produce and maintain steady energy levels to double coffee’s effects while using only half of the caffeine normally found in coffee! Chaga can also lower the acidity in both Mushroom Coffees.

Does the mushroom coffee contain coffee?

Yes! All of the Mushroom Coffees as well as our Mushroom Mocha and Adaptogen Coffee contain organic, 100% Arabica coffee, along with functional mushrooms and other supporting herbs and adaptogens.

What is the difference between the coffees and elixirs?

Our Mushroom Elixirs contain a potent dose of dual-extracted, organic mushrooms combined with harmonizing herbs and adaptogens. They do not contain coffee and are free of caffeine. Each box of Mushroom Elixir contains 20 individual packets. Each serving contains 1,500mg of mushrooms.

Our Mushroom Coffees contain organic 100% Arabica coffee with 500mg of organic dual-extracted mushrooms per serving. Each box of Mushroom Coffee contains 10 individual packets of instant coffee with 50mg of caffeine per serving while the tin jar comes with 30 servings. Our 12oz bag of Ground Mushroom Coffee comes with 24 servings and 110-130mg of caffeine per serving. Our Mushroom Coffee Pods comes with 12 pods and 100mg of caffeine per serving.
Our Adaptogen Coffee contains 50mg of caffeine per serving along with tulsi, astragalus and cinnamon. Our Mushroom Mocha Mix also contains 50mg of caffeine per serving, along with 500mg of chaga and cacao.

How does mushroom coffee compare to regular coffee

Great question! Our Mushroom Coffee is different in a few ways:

  • The most obvious is that it contains mushrooms! Additionally, all of our Mushroom Coffee does contain actual coffee as well.
  • Our Mushroom Coffee contains less caffeine to avoid jitters. Regular coffee contains about 95-200mg of caffeine! Our Mushroom Coffee (instant) Mushroom Mocha and Adaptogen Coffee packets only contain 50 mg of caffeine per serving. However, if you're looking for an extra boost alongside your mushrooms, our Mushroom Coffee pods contain 100mg of caffeine per serving, and our Ground Mushroom Coffee contains about 120mg of caffeine per serving.

Now onto the mushrooms!

  • Regular coffee tends to be quite acidic, and can cause heartburn and discomfort for some. Our Mushroom Coffee contains alkalizing Chaga Mushroom, which helps to cancel out some of that acidity.
  • Our Mushroom Coffees with Lion's Mane contain Lion's Mane Mushroom, which has been shown to support memory and concentration.
  • Our Mushroom Coffees with Cordyceps contain Cordyceps Mushroom, which helps to produce and maintain steady energy levels to double the effects of coffee.
  • Our Mushroom Coffee with Green Coffee Bean Extract contains Maitake mushroom, which helps support a steady glycemic balance, while Green Coffee Beans help to support the metabolism.

How many mushrooms can I take? Can I combine?

We recommend beginning with 1 packet per day of each mushroom, so you can get a feel for how each mushroom benefits your body. Once you are comfortable with each mushroom, you can certainly increase your dosage to what works best for you. Mushrooms can definitely be combined!

How much caffeine is in the products?

Our instant Mushroom Coffees, Mushroom Mocha and Adaptogen Coffee contain 50mg of caffeine per serving, which is equal to about 1/2 cup of regular coffee.

Our Mushroom Coffee Pods contain 100mg of caffeine per serving.

Our Ground Mushroom Coffee with Lion's Mane and Chaga contains 110-130mg of caffeine per serving. Since it’s a fresh brewed coffee experience, it’s harder to guarantee the exact caffeine amount but it is equivalent to a regular 8oz brewed coffee.

Our Mushroom Matcha contains a caffeine amount equivalent to a regular 8oz brewed coffee. It’s harder to guarantee the exact caffeine amount from this fine powder.

*Our Mushroom Hot Cacaos do not contain caffeine, although they do contain theobromine. Theobromine and caffeine are alkaloids that share a similar structure. Theobromine may enhance alertness for sensitive individuals.

Are your products vegan and gluten free?

Yes, all of our products are gluten free and vegan. None of our ingredients include gluten or are derived from an animal. We do not use any Cordyceps that grow from caterpillars.

Our warehouses/facilities are not gluten-free or nut-free certified.

Source of Mushrooms

Our main focus is to offer you the safest, cleanest, and highest-quality products possible. To ensure this, we test all of our products in third party laboratories for heavy metals, microbial quality, aflatoxins, mycotoxins, mold, yeast and pesticides. Currently, our mushroom fruiting bodies of (reishi, lion's mane, cordyceps, shiitake, maitake, etc), are grown in controlled environments in China on an amazing organic family farm that we have been working with for over 6 years. We choose to source mainly from China, as they have the longest history in mushroom cultivation (dating back to 600 A.D!), and their methods are far superior to anywhere else in the world. China is estimated to provide about 85% of the world’s mushrooms, and almost all of the world’s fruiting bodies! It’s really the only place where you could get organic and dual-extracted mushroom fruiting bodies.

We optimize the growing medium for each specific mushroom, so they can grow naturally, just as they would in nature. For example with reishi, we grow the red reishi strain on myceliated basswood logs that are buried underground. The mushrooms are only collected when the fruiting bodies are formed and grown into an optimal size, after which they go through our extensive dual-extraction process and 3rd party quality testing in the U.S. (our main lab testing partner is Eurofins).

We do agree that all parts of the fungi have their benefits, however we choose to use the fruiting bodies of mushrooms, and never mycelium grown on grains. According to the FDA, mycelium has an identity different than actual mushrooms. Normally, mycelium based products contain 50-80% starch from the growing substrate, up to 50% less beta-glucans than fruiting bodies, and far less beneficial compounds.

The one exception to our mycelium rule is the Ophiocordyceps sinensis (Cs-4 cordyceps) we use in two of the products (10 Mushroom Blend and the Adaptogen Blend). Our other Cordyceps products (Cordyceps Elixir, Mushroom Hot Cacao with Cordyceps, Mushroom Coffee with Cordyceps) are made with the Cordyceps Militaris fruiting bodies. They are both powerful products and contain absolutely no starch. Unlike mushrooms grown on grain or other substrates, Cs-4 is pure mycelium grown in liquid fermentation tanks, without any fillers. Multiple research papers demonstrate that Cs-4 has similar activities as the incredibly rare wild Cordyceps varieties!

Additionally, our chaga mushrooms and turkey tail mushrooms are sustainably wild-harvested. Our popular chaga comes from birch trees on organic land in Siberia. Only part of the Chaga conk is removed to ensure it will continue to grow without harming the tree!

All of our mushrooms are dual-extracted to provide the highest amount of beta-glucans and polysaccharides, as well as triterpenes and other more adaptogenic compounds. Triterpenes, which give the mushrooms their increased adaptogenic properties, are poorly soluble in water. To fully extract all of the compounds from the terpenes, the dual-extraction takes the process one step further by using alcohol to extract.

Which products are unsweetened?

All of our Mushroom Coffees and Adaptogen Coffee are unsweetened, along with all of our Mushroom Superfood Blends, and our Mushroom Matcha. Our Reishi Elixir, Chaga Elixir and Cordyceps Elixir are all unsweetened as well.

Our Mushroom Mocha and Hot Cacao with Reishi are sweetened with both stevia and coconut sugar. Our Hot Cacao with Cordyceps is sweetened with just coconut sugar. Our Lion’s Mane Elixir is very lightly sweetened with stevia.

Why are mushrooms such a big trend? Why mushroom tea?

The traditional way has been to consume functional mushrooms as decoction (i.e. tea-like hot drink). This ancient idea has been trending recently because of the extensive research and use around the world for these potent functional mushrooms. As the fungi is a whole kingdom of life of its own, and one that has suffered from some racism recently, we want people to give mushrooms a chance and experience the health-benefits they can gain from this new variety into their diets!

What do the products taste like? Do they taste like mushrooms?

We know what you're thinking when you hear the word, 'mushrooms...' But no, our products don't taste like culinary mushrooms at all!

Each Mushroom Elixir taste a bit different however the taste is more or less herbal and earthy tasting, with some slight bitterness. Our Chaga Elixir, Cordyceps Elixir and Reishi Elixir contain no stevia or other sweetener. Our Lion's Mane Elixir contains a touch of stevia.

Our Mushroom Coffee and Adaptogen Coffee tastes just like real coffee! Mushroom Coffee contains real coffee + mushrooms. Adaptogen Coffee contains real coffee + adaptogens.

Our Mushroom Mocha tastes similar to a mocha! It contains real coffee + chaga mushroom + cacao and is lightly sweetened.

The Hot Cacao drinks taste like hot cacao with a touch of coconut sugar and either cinnamon or ginger. Most know this flavor as "hot coco".

Our Mushroom Matcha tastes like a unique twist on a classic matcha with a touch of ginger.

You can sweeten or add cream/milk to any of our products. You can add them to hot water, tea, coffee, or even in smoothies!

Customs Fees

Four Sigmatic is not responsible for paying fees or rates charged by customs. It is the customer's responsibility to pay customs fees and rates.
If you refuse to accept your package at customs due to high customs fees, we are not responsible for refunding that order or reshipping the order via another carrier. The package will be abandoned at customs. If you want a refund on your order, you are responsible for paying the customs fee to ship the package back to us. As such, once the package is received back at our warehouse, you will be credited for the cost of your order minus the original shipping charge and minus the customs charge to send the package back to us (if you haven't paid it yet).
Four Sigmatic is not responsible for reshipping orders that are refused at customs. If customs refuses a package, sends it back to us, and we receive it back from customs, we can issue you a refund for the order only if we receive the package back and if the contents are in sellable condition.
In the event the package is not returned to us by customs or is lost in transit, we cannot issue you a refund. We are not responsible for paying for the package to be returned to us or for reimbursing the customer for that cost.
International orders/shipments may be subject to the possible opening of packages and inspection of goods by customs officials in the country of delivery. Opened boxes: As all of our products are food, and thus are of a perishable nature, we unfortunately cannot accept returns of opened boxes/boxes missing items. To return unopened items: Please email us at support@foursigmatic.com and we will send you a return shipping label. Remember to include your order number and the items you want to return and why. How do I set up/edit a subscription?

If you have set up a subscription, you can log into your Four Sigmatic account, and manage your subscription within your account portal. Here, you will be able to edit your items, shipping dates and payment information.

Can I take these products when pregnant or nursing?

During pregnancy/nursing it is important to use caution and listen to the body when consuming strong natural herbs and mushrooms. This is also the case when using any of the Four Sigmatic products. Unfortunately we cannot give any specific recommendations about which products to take. As usual, we recommend to consult your healthcare professional to make sure or if you have further concerns.

Interactions and cautions with medicine

We don’t recommend use of the products with antibiotics, anticoagulant, diabetes medications or intravenous glucose. The functioning of antibiotics can be distracted by mushrooms. Functional mushrooms are potent and support the body in blood circulation and blood sugar control problems, hence using them alongside particular drugs may have unexpected results. With these specific conditions it is important to start slowly and incrementally increase the dosage.
We always recommend checking in with your healthcare practitioner prior to consuming our products.

Can my children take these mushrooms?

In general, functional mushrooms are considered safe even for young children however we do not recommend use on a regular basis. Our mushroom products should be ok for for children 6-7 years old and up. Before 6 years old, the child's own immunity is still building itself so if there is no special need to modulate it with these safe but potent functional mushrooms, we recommend waiting until the child is at least 6 years old.

It is best to start with lower doses (1/3 - 1/2 a packet per day). Build the dose up from there if it seems to work well for the child and if it feels necessary however we do recommend the child only consume the mushrooms 3-4 times a week. Don't forget to check the ingredient list for any allergies!
